Step
Three: Analyze
List the
skill sets they look for and match them to what you have to offer
·
Experience in marketing, preferably in a related
industry
o
Since I will be new to the marketing profession
I will not have loads of experience however I do have some experience from the
applied projects that I have completed during my education
·
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a
related filed
o
Obviously this course does not give us a degree,
however our time here at RRC does amount roughly to the same as an
undergraduate degree so I do plan to use this as a highlight in my future. I
still have yet to decide if I will return for further education to pursue a
degree.
·
Strong communication skills
o
I believe I have strong communication skills
because I’m always using appropriate body language and tone of voice can also
convey confidence and professionalism. Additionally, demonstrating empathy and
understanding when interacting with others can help build rapport and
strengthen communication skills.
·
Project management skills
o
Because of particular situations in my work and
school lives I’ve had to assume a leadership role to get everyone onboard. This
meant delegating/ splitting up tasks and setting firm deadlines.
If I'm missing certain skills
required for a marketing role in these industries, there are several ways I can
compensate and improve my chances of getting hired:
- Training
and education - I can take courses or attend training programs to develop
the skills I'm lacking. For example, if I don't have experience in digital
marketing, I can take online courses in social media marketing, search
engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and email
marketing to improve my digital marketing skills.
- Volunteer
work or internships - I can gain experience and develop skills through
volunteering or internships. I can look for opportunities to volunteer for
non-profit organizations, or apply for internships in marketing
departments of companies in my desired industry. This will give me
hands-on experience and help me build my resume.
- Networking
- I can attend industry events and connect with professionals in my
desired industry. This can help me learn more about the skills required
for the job and potentially find a mentor who can provide guidance and
advice.
- Soft
skills - While technical skills are important, soft skills such as
communication, interpersonal skills, and adaptability are also highly
valued in marketing roles. I should make sure to highlight these skills on
my resume and during job interviews.
- Passion
for the industry - Employers also value candidates who are passionate
about the industry and the company's mission. I can do my research and
learn as much as I can about the company and the industry to show my
enthusiasm during the application process.
Overall, it's important for me to
be proactive in developing my skills and gaining experience, as well as showing
a willingness to learn and grow in my desired role. By highlighting my
strengths, being passionate about the industry, and showing a willingness to
learn, I can compensate for missing parts of those skills and increase my
chances of getting hired.
